Patient trust…

Deep work

When we lay our hearts open before Him a deep work of God takes place. We ask Him to come, speak to us, change us, cause us to grow. In His great grace and kindness, He reveals our hearts to us. This is never to beat us up. It is not to put us down, but is to bring healing and wholeness. It brings us greater freedom.

Tender hearts

This is a tender work; it’s akin to having surgery, cutting away what is harmful so we become healthier. After surgery, there is pain and soreness, but when recovered, we are stronger. 

Make it quick!

There are times in this process when we become discouraged, we wish the journey to healing would be faster. Can’t we wave a wand and make it go away? Yet, the work of God takes time.

Refreshment offered

So, dear reader when I came across this poem today, it was like a refreshing glass of water on the hottest of humid days! The love of our Heavenly Father is so immense, so full of graciousness and mercy.

The work He does in our hearts; it is a holy work. And He our Potter fashions us with great care. He is making us into beautiful vessels. As we lean on Him, in and through our weaknesses He shows Himself strong.

I offer this poem as encouragement and comfort. He sees and knows you. 

You are deeply and profoundly loved.

Patient Trust
 
Above all, trust in the slow work of God.
We are quite naturally impatient in everything
to reach the end without delay.
We should like to skip the intermediate stages.
We are impatient of being on the way to something
unknown, something new.

And yet it is the law of all progress
that it is made by passing through
some stages of instability —
and that it may take a very long time.

And so I think it is with you;
your ideas mature gradually—let them grow,
let them shape themselves, without undue haste.
Don’t try to force them on,
as though you could be today what time
(that is to say, grace and circumstances
acting on your own good will)
will make of you tomorrow.

Only God could say what this new spirit
gradually forming within you will be.
Give Our Lord the benefit of believing
that his hand is leading you,
and accept the anxiety of feeling yourself
in suspense and incomplete.
