The examined life
On Sunday, our Pastor asked us to look at our lives. To ask the Holy Spirit to shine His light on our dark places. To pray and to confess. Let go of anything that might hinder our relationship with Christ.
An invitation
At the end of the service He invited us to come to the front – to stand, kneel, get on our faces; open our hands and our hearts to God. Not to shame or condemn us, oh, no; but to lead us to greater healing. To release us from that which chokes us, keeps us bound, trapped, and chained.
Because He came to set the captives free. “A broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.” Psalm 51:17
Oh, the hope, the comfort in those sweet words. This was a profound and precious moment.
Your words
Your Words, are Spirit and Life. (John 6:63) The life He offers. One that leads to greater freedom and wholeness.
He beckons us; He longs for us to come closer, closer, and closer still.
Hebrews 4:12-13 says: “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”
Lay it down
So, I lay down my anger, pride, forsake bitterness and resentment. I leave the altar with a lighter heart. I go back, sit quiet in my seat before I leave; take in the tender love of my Heavenly Father. He, who loves me just as I am and who loves me too much to leave me that way.
I stand at the door
This loving invitation to come is open to all. He says: “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Rev. 3:20. It is an invitation to liberty, and emancipation, to enjoy sweet fellowship with Him. To walk with Him and talk with Him. To know that He will never leave or forsake us, that He will sustain us and hold us. And, He will free us from the burden of darkness and sin.
For, “if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!” John 8:36
